Windermere at a Glance

Windermere is a town built for visitors. Hotels, guest houses and holiday homes sit alongside family houses, and the busy and quiet seasons shape when and where pests appear.

Windermere and Bowness

The town sits half a mile from the lake and runs into Bowness on the shore, forming one built-up area.

Bowness piers

Boats and visitors

How Windermere Is Affected by Pests

Most pest calls in Windermere come back to hospitality. Busy rooms bring bed bugs, empty rooms let mice and moths settle, and outdoor dining draws wasps. Our pest control service is planned around guests and bookings.

Bed bugs in hotels and guest houses

Bed bugs arrive in luggage, and a guest house or hotel with rooms turning over every night is far more exposed than a family home. Spotting them on the first report and treating the room and the rooms either side is what stops one complaint becoming a bad review. See the buildings we treat, from B&Bs to large hotels.

Mice in holiday homes out of season

Holiday homes and second homes that sit empty through winter are quiet, warm and undisturbed, which is exactly what mice look for. The problem is often found by the first guests of the year. After treatment, droppings and contamination need a proper specialist clean before the property is let again.

Moths in rooms that sit unused

Clothes and carpet moths do their damage where nobody walks: under beds, behind wardrobes and in spare rooms that stay shut between bookings. Wool throws, rugs and carpets in quiet properties can be badly eaten before anyone notices.

Wasps at the waterside tables

From late summer, wasps go for the sugary food and drink at outdoor tables in Bowness and along the lake, and nests in the eaves of hotels and cafes put them right above seating areas. Removing nests early keeps staff and customers safe.

Squirrels in woodland and roof spaces

Woodland runs right down to the lake and around the town, and both red and grey squirrels live in the Lake District. Red squirrels are protected, so we always confirm the species before any work. Grey squirrels in a roof space chew timber and wiring and need removing and proofing out.

Spiders on lakeside properties

Water means insects, and insects mean spiders. Lakeside homes, boathouses and balconies often have webs across windows and railings, and house spiders come indoors in early autumn. Harmless, but a nuisance in a let that needs to look its best.

Questions

Pest Control in Windermere: FAQs

Do you cover Windermere, Bowness and the villages around the lake?

Yes. We cover the LA23 area, including Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere, Troutbeck Bridge, Storrs and Heathwaite, and the lakeshore properties around them. If you are further up or down the lake, call anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can reach you. Same-day callouts depend on technician availability, and we are open Monday to Thursday 7am to 8pm and Friday to Sunday 8am to 6pm.

Can you treat bed bugs in a guest room without closing the whole property?

Usually, yes. We treat the affected room and inspect the rooms next to it, above and below, because bed bugs move through walls and along pipework. The treated rooms need to stay out of use until the treatment is complete, and a follow-up visit is normally needed. Tell us your booking pattern and we will plan the visits around it as far as possible.

My holiday let has been empty all winter and I have found droppings. What should I do?

Do not sweep or vacuum the droppings, as that spreads dust and bacteria into the air. Keep guests out of the affected rooms and call us. We will find how the mice got in, treat and proof the property, and arrange cleaning so it is safe to let again.

Do you look after hotels and guest houses on a regular basis?

Yes. Many hospitality businesses prefer scheduled visits so problems are caught before guests see them. Our commercial pest control service includes routine inspections, monitoring and written reports you can show an environmental health officer.

Does the council do pest control in Windermere?

Windermere is now in the Westmorland and Furness Council area. The council publishes advice on dealing with rats, mice and insects and can look into some insect problems as a statutory nuisance, so check its website for what it currently offers. For a visit to a home, let or business, call us directly.
