What pests does Clear Pest Control deal with?

We deal with a wide range of pests across five main groups: rodents (mice, rats, squirrels), insects and crawling pests (bed bugs, fleas, cockroaches, ants and more), stinging and flying insects (wasps, bees, moths), birds (including gulls) and wildlife (foxes and moles). View all pest control services.

How do I know what pest I have?

Signs such as droppings, gnaw marks or damage, noises at night, nesting material, bites, or insect sightings and activity around particular areas can all help indicate what may be present. Our individual pest and service pages describe the signs for each pest, and our guides on wasps, mice, ants and birds go into more detail. Not sure what you've found? Contact us and we'll help.

When should I contact a pest controller?

It's worth getting in touch if you notice persistent activity, repeated sightings, droppings, nests, property damage or unexplained noises. The sooner a problem is looked at, the easier it usually is to bring under control.

Can pest problems get worse if they are left untreated?

They can, though it depends heavily on the species. Some pest populations reproduce quickly, spread to other parts of a building, or cause additional problems over time, so it is generally better to act early rather than wait.

Do you provide pest control throughout the year?

Yes, we work all year round. Different pest problems are simply more noticeable at different times, for example wasps through the summer and rodents as the weather cools. Our pest advice blog covers what to look out for through the seasons.

How do I book a pest control visit?

You can call us, message us on WhatsApp, or send an enquiry through our contact page. Tell us what you've seen and where, and we'll take it from there.

How quickly can a pest control visit be arranged?

Availability depends on your location, the type of pest and our existing appointments, so timescales can vary. We always aim to help as quickly as we can — see the Contact & Hours section below for our current hours.

What information should I provide when contacting you?

It helps to tell us the type of pest if you know it, what you have seen, where the activity is happening, when it started, the property type and location, and any photographs that might be useful. None of this is essential, but it helps us advise you more quickly.

Do I need to know which pest I have before booking?

No. You can simply describe what you've seen, even if you aren't certain of the species, and we can help work out what may be involved.

Do I need to be at the property during the visit?

In most cases we need access to the relevant areas, so someone usually needs to be present or to arrange access. We'll confirm what's needed when the visit is booked.

Follow-up
What happens during a pest control treatment?

Broadly, a visit involves inspection and assessment, identifying the pest, carrying out the appropriate treatment or making recommendations, and arranging a follow-up where required. The detail varies by pest, so see the individual pest service pages for specifics.

How long does pest control treatment take?

It depends on the pest, the size and type of property, the extent of the activity and the treatment being carried out. Some visits are relatively straightforward, while other problems need additional time or follow-up visits.

Will one treatment be enough?

Sometimes, but not always. Whether one visit is enough depends on the pest and the circumstances, and some problems need follow-up treatments to resolve fully. We'll be honest about what to expect.

Do I need to prepare my property before treatment?

Preparation requirements depend on the pest and the treatment. If anything needs to be moved, cleaned, covered or made accessible beforehand, we'll explain this when you book. Some treatments, such as bed bugs, have their own detailed preparation steps.

Will I need to leave the property during treatment?

This depends on the treatment being used rather than being a fixed yes or no. Where it applies, we'll tell you in advance how long to stay away and when it's fine to return.

Is pest control safe around children and pets?

Requirements depend on the treatment being used. We'll always explain any precautions to take before, during and after a treatment, and it's important to follow the instructions provided so that children and pets are kept away from treated areas as advised.

We treat pests across five groups. Tap a group to see common questions, and any pest name to see how we treat it.

Rodents
What are the signs of rodents in a property?

Common signs include droppings, gnaw marks, damaged packaging or wiring, nesting material and scratching or scurrying noises, often at night.

Why do rodents enter buildings?

Rodents come indoors looking for food, water, warmth and shelter, particularly as the weather turns colder.

Can rodents live inside walls and lofts?

Yes. Mice, rats and squirrels can all nest in wall cavities, lofts and other quiet, undisturbed spaces, which is often where activity is first heard.

View rodent control services
Insects & Crawling Pests
Why am I suddenly seeing insects indoors?

A sudden appearance is often seasonal or triggered by warmth, moisture or a nearby food source, and sometimes signals breeding activity nearby.

How do insects get into homes and buildings?

Through gaps around doors, windows, pipework and vents, on items brought inside, or from adjoining properties.

Does seeing one insect mean I have an infestation?

Not necessarily, but repeated sightings, especially of the same pest in the same area, are worth investigating.

Stinging & Flying Insects
What's the difference between bees and wasps?

Bees are rounder and hairier and are usually seen visiting flowers, while wasps are smoother and more yellow and build papery grey nests. If you're unsure, send us a photo.

What should I do if I find a nest?

Keep your distance and avoid disturbing it, as that can provoke stinging. Contact us and we can identify it and advise on the safest course of action.

Why do flying insects keep appearing inside?

Recurring flying insects indoors often point to a nest or breeding site nearby, or an entry point drawing them in.

View stinging & flying insect services
Birds
Why do birds keep returning to the same building?

Birds return to reliable roosting and nesting spots, and once established they tend to come back to the same ledges, roofs and signage year after year.

Can birds nest on commercial buildings?

Yes, and roofs, ledges, signage and large flat surfaces on commercial premises are common nesting locations.

Are there laws protecting nesting birds?

Yes. In the UK, wild birds, their active nests and their eggs are generally protected by law, so timing and method matter and the work must be carried out correctly. This is one reason professional handling is important rather than DIY.

Wildlife
Why are foxes visiting my property?

Foxes are drawn by available food, water and shelter, such as bins, pet food or spaces under sheds and decking where they can den.

How can I tell if I have moles?

Fresh molehills and raised ridges across a lawn or paddock, sometimes appearing overnight, are the usual giveaway.

Do you provide pest control for flats and apartments?

Yes. We treat flats and apartments as well as houses, including communal areas where access can be arranged.

Can pests move between neighbouring properties?

Some pests can move between adjoining or nearby properties, particularly in flats, terraces and multi-occupancy buildings. Where that's a factor, we'll talk through what it means for treatment.

What should I do if I am renting a property with a pest problem?

As a general principle, it's sensible to report the problem to your landlord or letting agent, as responsibilities can differ depending on the circumstances and tenancy. We can carry out work for tenants, landlords or agents, and for anything involving legal responsibility we'd suggest checking the appropriate official guidance.

How much does pest control cost?

There's no single price, because cost can depend on the pest, the property, the extent of the activity, the treatment required, the number of visits, the location, and whether it's a residential or commercial job. The best way to get an accurate figure is to contact us for a quote.

Can I get a pest control quote before booking?

Yes. Tell us about the problem and the property and we can talk through the likely approach and cost before you commit to anything.

Does the price depend on the pest?

It can. Different pests require different approaches, equipment and numbers of visits, so costs vary from one pest to another.

Are follow-up visits included in the price?

Where a treatment needs follow-up visits, we'll make that clear as part of your quote so you know what's included before work begins.

1Follow the technician's instructions
2Monitor activity over the following days
3Reduce access to food, water and shelter
4Address potential entry points
5Contact us again if required
What should I do after pest control treatment?

Instructions vary depending on the pest and treatment, so the most important thing is to follow the advice given by your technician, including anything about cleaning, ventilation or keeping away from treated areas.

How soon should I expect pest activity to stop?

This depends on the pest and the treatment. Some activity may reduce quickly, while other treatments work over a longer period or need a follow-up visit before the problem is fully resolved.

What if I still see pests after treatment?

Some activity can be expected for a period after certain treatments. Your technician will tell you what's normal and when to get back in touch, and you can always contact us if you're concerned.

How can I reduce the chance of pests returning?

Prevention depends on the pest, but reducing access to food, water and shelter and addressing potential entry points all help. Our pest advice guides contain more detailed prevention information for individual species, including mice, ants and wasps.
